from a layoff with a career-best effort last time out, and goes out for a
trainer who cranks them up in their second starts off a layoff (29% wins). Owns
early speed and will benefit from the short 5F turf dash distance of this race.
Never tried turf, but should handle it and if you are willing to take the
chance you are rewarded on the tote board with 15-1 odds on the morning line.

#10 Beautiful Gift could have
been a contender in the Kentucky Oaks, but opted to point to this spot instead
for Bob Baffert. Took the west coast path to this race with a victory in the Santa
Ysabel (G3) followed by a close second-place finish in the Santa Anita Oaks
(G2). Owns speed figures that are better than these and Baffert again teams up
with Johnny Velazquez to get the win.
Play in exacta and trifecta box
with #9 Adventuring, who has been hot for trainer Brad Cox with back-to-back
wins, including the victory last time in the $100k Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway,
which was on an artificial surface. Sceptics should note that the win in the
race before happened on a fast dirt track at Fair Grounds, so her good recent
form should carryover to any surface.
Play in exacta and trifecta box
with #7 Miss Leslie, who is low-profile compared to some of the other
contenders in this race but seems to stack up well after taking the local
Maryland route to this race. Two-time stakes winner has been most successful so
far when stretched out to two turns, including the win last time out in a
stakes right here at Pimlico. Just needs a clean trip to come from off the pace
for a share, at least, at value morning line odds of 15-1. Beats the likes of
The Grass is Blue when the pair met last year. Don’t overlook.
