#11 Seven Nation Army
Has been
in good form since last summer, with the only stain on his in-the-money record
coming two races ago when he lost his best chance at the start with a bad break
in a loss to Strike Power at Oaklawn. Picks up Luis Saez, comes off a good win
after overcoming early trouble, and will be the best odds of the top contenders
in this race.

Risk Taking
#10 Concert Tour missed the
Derby but would have been one of the favorites in that race if he had raced. Finished
a disappointing third in his Arkansas Derby flop, but had been good in wins
before that in the San Vicente (G2) and Rebel Stakes (G2). Has tactical speed,
which has been all-important in the Preakness. He’ll be forwardly-placed, but
sitting just off the contested pace between Medina Spirit and Midnight Bourbon,
and he’ll get first run on the tired front-runners.
Play in exacta and trifecta box
with #3 Medina Spirit, who never runs a bad race and never finishes
worse than second. The controversial Derby winner got away with murder on the
lead at Churchill Downs, but now he is expected to face heavy pressure from
Asmussen’s Midnight Bourbon, and that battle up front is likely to take its toll
on both horses. The speed horse with the best chance to hold on for a piece of
the action is Medina Spirit.
Play in exacta and trifecta box
with #9 Risk Taking, who Chad Brown’s closer in the race with a good chance at
a favorable pace setup from the mid-part of the pack. Looms a live overlay at
morning line odds of 15-1. Was the beaten favorite in the Wood Memorial, going
off at a good price for a top trainer, and eligible for a positive turnaround.
