Del Mar (Pacific Classic full-card) Selections
DEL MAR
SPOT PLAYS
Race 10 – Pacific Classic
#3 Finger
Has won four of
his last five races including a victory last time in the Japanese Derby at this
1 ¼-mile distance atop a 16-horse field. He will look to build on the successes
of other recent Japanese invaders including 2025 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner
Forever Young, and T O Elvis, who arrived from Japan earlier this year and made
mincemeat out of a Grade 1 field in the $1 million Churchill Downs Stakes
proving that you have to take these Japanese shippers seriously when they show
up in top-level races.
Race 11 – Del Mar Mile
#7 Almendares
Plus
exacta box with #9 King of Gosford
#7
Almendares exits a loss in Del Mar’s G2 Eddie Read Stakes where he was at a
disadvantage chasing Cabo Spirit who got away with murder up front on a
solo pace. A much more contested pace is expected in this race and that helps Almendares,
who was forced into a dirty-work type of trip in the pace-less Eddie Read. Has
the ability to turn the tables in a more familiar closing role here based on
his good form from earlier this year when he won Santa Anita’s G3 American
Stakes and finished second behind only Formidable Man in the G1 Shoemaker Mile.
Play in
exacta box with #9 King of Gosford, who is a multiple graded stakes-winning
turf miler who signaled a positive turnaround in form last time with a win in
the $100,000 Wickerr Stakes at this course and distance.
