SPOT PLAYS
Race 4
#4 Print
Was unlucky to take the worst of a three-way win photo and settle
for third the last time he raced at this class level in a race where he rallied
despite getting absolutely no pace to chase. The two races since then were
respectable performances against much better horses in stakes company. Now he
drops to the proper allowance level again and should get the pace he needs to
win.
Race 13 – Travers Stakes
#5 Renegade
Plus exacta box with #9 Golden Tempo
#5 Renegade is a horse that has had little trouble this
year beating every other horse he’s faced with the exception of Golden Tempo
(he turned the tables on Commandment with his win last time in Saratoga’s Jim
Dandy Stakes). Renegade finished within a neck of Golden Tempo in the Kentucky
Derby, but unlike that rival, he did get a Travers prep race under his belt in
the Jim Dandy, and that recency edge should make enough of a difference to
enable him to get the best of Golden Tempo on Travers Day.
Play in exacta box with #9 Golden Tempo, the Kentucky Derby
winner Golden who makes his first post-Triple Crown start since winning the
Belmont Stakes back on June 6. He won’t have the benefit of a prep race, which
is a mark against him, but he’s already 2-for-2 at this 1 ¼-mile distance
including a win at Saratoga in the Belmont Stakes, and he could wrap-up the
3-year-old championship with a Travers victory.
